Abstract
For comparative study of the screening methods for hepatitis B antigen(HBsAg),
radioimmunoassay(RIA) and counterelectrophoresis (CEP) were tested on blood donors.
2,398 cased of volunteer donors and 2,621 cases of professional donors were included, in
total of 5,018 cases. CEP was done on all of the 5,018 cases and RIA on 298 cases.
The results are as follows:
1. HBsAg occurrence rate was 3.2% out of the total 5,018 cases tested by CEP.
2. HBsAg occurrence rate was 11.1% out of 298 cases tested by RIA.
3. HBsAg occurrence rate for volunteer donors wag 4.7% by CEP and 4.7% by RIA.
4. HBsAg occurrence rate for professional donors was 1.6% by CEP and 16.0% by
RIA.
5. HBsAg detection ratio of RIA/CEP was 3/1 in all cases, 1/1 for volunteer donors
and 10/1 for professional donors.
6. Occurrence rate of HBsAg was higher in younger age group, especially in age
group of 16¡20 years.
